Do you ever forget that the chapter you’re living right now is just that—a chapter?
Sometimes it feels like the whole book. The pain, the uncertainty, the waiting… they can become so loud that it’s hard to imagine there are still pages left to write.
But there are.
I’m in one of those chapters myself. You know the kind. The one that seems to go on for far too many pages. The one where you wonder when the plot is finally going to change. The one where every day feels a little harder than the last.
Life has a way of teaching us lessons we never would have chosen. If someone had handed me a list years ago and asked, “Would you like to learn these things through dyslexia, loss of a marriage, death of loved ones, cancer and now autoimmune disease?” my answer would have been an immediate no.
Yet here I am.
Looking back, I can honestly say that some of my greatest teachers have been my health challenges—not because I wanted them, but because they quietly shaped me into someone I couldn’t have become otherwise.
They’ve taught me resilience when I wanted to quit.
Patience when healing didn’t happen on my timeline.
Kindness because everyone is carrying something we can’t see.
Grace for myself on the days when I simply couldn’t do what I used to.
Empathy and compassion for others whose battles remain hidden behind a smile.
Most of all, they’ve taught me to lean on God’s strength instead of my own. There have been many days when I simply didn’t have enough strength to get through on my own. On those days, His faithfulness carried me when my body couldn’t.
Recently, a picture was taken completely by accident.
To be honest, I never intended to share it.
It captures one of those days when my autoimmune disease was impossible to hide. My vision was blurred. My muscles weren’t cooperating. My smile took more effort than anyone around me realized. I didn’t feel like myself.
Normally, I would have quietly deleted the picture.
I don’t use filters or editing, but I also don’t usually let people see the days when I’m struggling. Like many of us, I naturally want to share the moments when I feel stronger, healthier, and more put together.
But today…
Today, I just don’t care.
Because this picture tells the truth.
This is part of my story too.
Healing isn’t always pretty.
Sometimes it looks like doctor’s appointments, medications, fatigue, blurry vision, loss of strenght and adjusting expectations.
Sometimes it looks like choosing gratitude while your body is fighting a battle no one else can see.
Sometimes it looks like resting instead of pushing.
Sometimes it looks like trusting God one day—sometimes one hour—at a time.
And sometimes resilience simply looks like showing up exactly as you are.
For a long time I wondered if these difficult chapters somehow defined me.
But they don’t.
Dyslexia taught me to see things different
Grief over loss of loved ones only meant I had love in my life
Marraige that was no longer- something better was around the corner
Cancer didn’t define me.
My autoimmune disease doesn’t define me.
The hard days don’t define me.
They are simply chapters in a much bigger story that God is still writing.
Every good book has chapters filled with struggle, heartbreak, unexpected twists, and unanswered questions. Yet those chapters aren’t the ending. They’re often the very pages that prepare the reader for hope, redemption, and a beautiful new beginning.
I don’t know exactly what the next chapter of my life will look like.
I still have difficult days, don’t we all.
But I’ve also learned that hope doesn’t depend on perfect circumstances. Hope grows when we choose to believe that this page isn’t the final page.
If you’re walking through your own difficult season today, I want you to know something.
You don’t have to look strong to be incredibly strong.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t have to pretend everything is okay.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply get out of bed, take one more step, whisper one more prayer, and trust that God is still writing your story.
This chapter may be hard.
It may be longer than you ever expected.
But it is still only one chapter.
The Author hasn’t finished writing yet.
And because of that…
Hope still has the final word.
A Final Thought
As I look back over the pages of my life, I can see God’s fingerprints in places I couldn’t recognize at the time. Even in the chapters filled with pain, uncertainty, and waiting, He was quietly writing a story of faithfulness. There were days I thought the chapter would never end, yet here I am—still standing, still believing, still finding reasons to hope.
If you’re in a chapter that feels unbearably long, don’t lose heart. The page you’re living today is not the conclusion of your story. There is still room for unexpected joy, healing in ways you may not have imagined, new beginnings, and beautiful moments that haven’t been written yet.
So today, I choose to keep turning the page.
I choose gratitude over bitterness.
I choose faith over fear.
I choose hope over despair.
And I choose to believe that the same God who comforted me when death came to my loved ones or carried me through cancer, who continues to carry me through my autoimmune journey, and who has never once left my side, is faithfully writing the next chapter—even when I can’t yet see how it will unfold.
Maybe that’s exactly what someone reading this needs to hear today too.
Don’t let one difficult chapter convince you it’s the whole book.
Keep trusting.
Keep praying.
Keep showing up.
Keep believing.
Your story isn’t over.
The best chapters may still be waiting just beyond the page you’re on today.
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6
And until then…
Let’s keep turning the pages together.
