The Blessing in the Scared

Halloween is a time of spooky fun, filled with costumes, candy, and a touch of fright. Yet for me, Halloween holds a deeper, more profound significance—it marks the birthday of my daughter, who came into the world on October 31, 1992. This post is dedicated to sharing a personal story about finding blessings in the midst of fear, a tale that might resonate with Halloween enthusiasts, parents, and women alike.

A Halloween to Remember

Back in 1992, my first child was born on Halloween. She was a week late, and the anticipation had been building up. When she finally arrived, I was overjoyed to welcome my perfect little one into the world. But amidst the happiness, I also found myself enveloped in fear. Could I be a good mom? The enormity of this new responsibility was overwhelming. I was terrified by the unknowns of parenthood but equally amazed by the instant love I felt for this tiny human I had just met.

The Freshness of Those Moments

Even now, as I think about her big birthday tomorrow, those early moments are still vivid in my memory. I can clearly recall the mix of emotions—joy, fear, love, and uncertainty—that swirled around me. Yet, if I had allowed my fear to dominate when I first learned I was pregnant, I might have missed out on experiencing the most wonderful blessing of my life. It made me reflect on how often we allow our fears to dictate our actions, complicating our lives unnecessarily.

Reflecting on Fear and Blessings

How many times do we, myself included, let fear take over? How often do we make things more complicated than they need to be? Reflecting on my experience made me realize that fear can rob us of our greatest blessings. My daughter’s birth taught me that sometimes, the most beautiful moments are hidden within the scariest challenges.

Think about the blessings we might have missed because of fear. Whether it’s taking a leap of faith in starting a new project or business, moving to a new city, or even welcoming a new family member, fear often stands as a barrier between us and our potential joys.

Halloween reminds us that facing our fears can lead to the most unexpected and delightful blessings. For Halloween enthusiasts, parents, and women, my story serves as a gentle reminder that the blessings often lie in the scared.

As we celebrate this festive season, let’s remember to look beyond the fear and appreciate the blessings that come with it. After all, life is full of surprises, and sometimes, the scariest moments turn out to be the most beautiful ones.

Happy Halloween, and here’s to finding the blessings in the scared.
